WWII Memorial

Bicentennial Park

Bicentennial Park, Kable Avenue - Tamworth

This memorial is the result of a proposal put to the Tamworth RSL Sub-Branch by Mr. Gordon Gaffney and Mr. Don Wall, both of whom had served in the 8th Division AIF.

After the dedication of the Sandakan Memorial, both men thought that it was past time that Tamworth had a proper World War 11 memorial at the southern entrance to Tamworth, on Goonoo Goonoo Road.

However, the Tamworth City Council and Skillshare Australia had received a grant to further develop the riverside park and knowing of the RSL’s wish for the establishment of a memorial, they approached the Sub-Branch with a proposal for a co-ordinated effort. The result was this impressive memorial..
