Grave of the Unknown Soldier

Tamworth Regional Council Cemetery

Westdale Street, Taminda, West Tamworth, opposite the showground.

In September 1967, the Rev. T. J. Hayman unveiled and dedicated the Tamworth RSL Sub-Branch’s Memorial to the Unknown Soldier, in the Church of England secton of the Tamworth City (now Regional) Council Cemetery.

Directly behind the memorial are 12 War Grave Commission Plots, containing the graves of nine Australian soldiers and 3 RAAF personnel.

Scattered throughout the cemetery, there are a further 15 War Commission graves.

Most of the work on this memorial was carried out by Sub-Branch members Mr. M. Gardiner and Mr. T. Smith.
